Mr. John H. Zhao
CEO

Mr. John Zhao is the founder, CEO and managing director of Hony Capital. Mr. Zhao sets the vision and strategy for Hony Capital, and leads the senior management team in the execution of Hony’s investment programs. Mr. Zhao plays an active personal role in each of Hony’s portfolio companies, working directly with the CEOs to formulate expansion strategy, realign their businesses, and conduct international and domestic M&A.

Prior to launching Hony Capital Mr. Zhao held numerous CEO and chairman roles. He was CEO of eGarden Ventures, CEO of technology company Infolio Inc., Chairman and CEO of Vadem Ltd. and general manager of U.S. Robotics.? Mr. Zhao continues to serve as vice president of Hony’s sponsor firm, Legend Holdings, one of China’s best known companies and the parent of Lenovo, acquirer of the IBM personal computer business. Mr. Zhao also continues to hold director and chairman roles in several Hony portfolio companies.

Mr. Zhao holds an MBA degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, dual master’s degrees in electric engineering and physics from Northern Illinois University, and a bachelor’s degree in physics from Nanjing University.



Ms. Linda Wang
Managing Director

Ms. Wang joined Hony Capital in 2003. She is responsible for fund raising, investor partnership, finance & accounting, human resources, administration and legal activities.

Prior to joining Hony Capital Ms. Wang served as the finance director of the AOL-Legend joint venture. Before joining AOL-Legend Ms. Wang was the deputy manager of the finance department of Lenovo Group Limited (HK.992).

Ms. Wang has extensive experience in financial and administrative management in both state owned enterprises (SOEs) and public listed companies. Ms Wang is familiar with Chinese and Hong Kong GAAP, and has a deep understanding of local business practices, financial and administrative management as well as general management practices within Chinese companies.

Ms. Wang received her bachelors of science in finance from People’s University of China and is a current student in the EMBA Program of Kellogg-HKUST.



Mr. Shunlong Wang
Managing Director

Mr. Wang joined Hony Capital in 2005. He leads Hony’s investment efforts in the pharmaceutical sector.

Prior to joining Hony Capital and Legend Holdings Mr. Wang served as the head of strategy department of Shanghai Industrial Holdings (SIIC) Medical Science and Technology Group(HK.0363), and was responsible for the strategic planning, M&A and administration across all of the group’s subsidiaries.

Before 1999 Mr. Wang was a senior manager of Shanghai Industrial Holdings Limited and was responsible for strategic analysis of various businesses, evaluation and operational analysis supervision and the evaluation of new projects.

Prior to Shanghai Industrial Holdings Mr. Wang worked for the CASIL Research & Development Company, a subsidiary of China Aerospace International Holdings Limited (HK.0031) and the Material Research Center of the City University of Hong Kong. During this period, he contributed a lot in market expanding, sales promotion and product development.

Mr. Wang has extensive experience in industrial research, business administration and investment in China. In particular, he has insight understanding about the development of pharmaceutical industry.

Mr. Wang received his PhD in 1991 from Tsinghua University. He then spent three years as a visiting researcher at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands.




Ms. Xihong Deng
Managing Director

Ms. Deng joined Hony Capital in 2004. She oversees direct investments in the consumer goods and financial services sectors, and post investment management across the Hony portfolio.

Prior to joining Hony Capital Ms. Deng served as a vice president at J.P. Morgan in the areas of investment banking, equity capital markets and private equity. She also worked in Citibank for two years in fixed income research.

Ms. Deng has more than 12 years of experience in investment banking in Wall Street, Hong Kong and China, having served in senior officer roles at J.P. Morgan and Citigroup. Ms. Deng also brings extensive private equity investment and company-leadership experience to Hony. She served as president of Solarfun, a company which she led to successful Nasdaq IPO. Additionally she co-founded, invested and sat on the board of four private US biotechnology and nanotechnology companies in Silicon Valley. During the past 20 years Ms. Deng has established extensive relationships with Chinese companies and government bodies while advising Chinese companies on overseas capital raising and joint ventures formation.

Ms. Deng received two master degrees, from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and Tsinghua University in Beijing respectively.




Mr. David Qiu
Managing Director

Mr. Qiu joining Hony Capital in 2005. Mr. Qiu brings extensive knowledge in operation & investment management, provides post-investment guidance to Hony Capital portfolio companies, and has deep domain expertise in the consumer products, retail, energy production, and real estate sectors.

Prior to joining Hony Capital in 2005 Mr. Qiu was a managing director of China Yintai Investments, and head of their direct investments department. Mr. Qiu personally built and led the Yintai’s SOE buyout team.

He then served as Chairman & CEO of Ningbo Hualian (Shanghai Stock Exchange 600683), a distressed SOE acquired by Yintai, which Mr. Qiu then turned around.

Mr. Qiu built one of the largest private-owned retail groups in China, the Yintai Department Stores chain, through the Yintai takeover of state-owned retail companies in Zhejiang, a process which he planned and executed.Mr. Qiu then served as the CEO of the Yintai Department Stores chain.

Mr. Qiu started his career at Hua Neng Group, a diversified energy conglomerate listed on the New York Stock Exchange. At Hua Neng Mr. Qiu was responsible for project planning and development, international business development and investor relations. From 1997 to 1999 Mr. Qiu served as vice president of Goldpark China, a Huaneng's subsidiary listed on Toronto Stock Exchange, where he was responsible for M&A and business development.

Mr. Qiu holds a joint MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his bachelor degree in engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University.



Mr. Michael Luo
Managing Director

Mr. Luo joined Hony Capital in 2004. He leads Hony’s investment efforts in media and consumer goods sectors. Prior to joining Hony Capital Mr. Luo established and led Strategic Investment Department of Lenovo Group (HK 0992), overseeing Lenovo’s investment strategies, leading cross-functional teams to implement M&A, joint venture and none-core business divesture projects. From 1998 to 2000 Mr. Luo was Deputy General Manager of Corporate Business Development, assisting Lenovo’s CEO in monitoring and evaluating the performance of all of the group’s business units and subsidiary companies.

Mr. Luo brings over ten years of experience in Investment, business development, and general management in China.

Mr. Luo holds an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Business School, a master’s degree in technology management from the Economics and Management School of Tsinghua University and a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Tsinghua University.



Mr. Owen Guo
Managing Director
Mr. Guo joined Hony Capital in 2003. He has extensive experience in construction material, consumer goods and media industries.
Prior to joining Hony Capital Mr. Guo was vice president of Hong Kong Neolink Cyber Technology (HKEX. 8116), and was responsible for enterprise investment and M&A.

Prior to HK Neolink Mr. Guo served as vice president of America New Oriental Biotech Engineering (NASDAQ AOB), a US-listed biotechnology company with extensive investments in the US, Japan and China.  Mr. Guo spearheaded the firm’s US IPO as well as heading its M&A practice.

Prior to AOB Mr. Guo served in Hainan Jinchuang Investments and Beida Jade Bird Group, where he was responsible for its securities and futures business as well as public company buyouts.

Mr. Guo has extensive working experience in finance, securities and investments in China, and has a successful track-record in both domestic and international M&A and securities investments.

Mr. Guo holds a bachelors of science in metallurgical engineering from Beijing University of Science and Technology.
